Part 2 – Colour – Eyes and Lips

This post was never going to be easy. I simply have way too many fave eye and lip products, so what I’ve decided to do is make this an on-going thing! I’m always discovering new favourites and rediscovering old things so I will share as I go. This edition of ‘Most Popular’ will be all about my most used colour products.

Eyes

M·A·C Shadows- Carbon (matte black), Black Tied (sparkly black), Shroom (mushroomy skin colour), Dazzlelight (shiny yellow beige), Smut (satiny purple brown), Woodwinked (creamy bronze), Vex (champagne frost), Naked Lunch (pink beige), Contrast (shiny navy), All That Glitters (shimmery warm beige), Parfait Amour (frosty blue purple), Gesso (matte white)

M·A·C Pigments (and Glitters) – I have definitely been amping up my use of pigments lately. See the picture for this post? All pigments, and all colours I use often! They are as follows (left to right): Mutiny (light blue), Reflects Turquatic (turquoise glitter), Lark About (silver blue), Chartreuse (lime green), Magenta Madness (hot fluro pink), Grape (bright purple), Fuchsia (mid shimmery pink) and Reflects Transparent Teal (silvery teal glitter)

Mascaras – Diorshow by Christian Dior is my ultimate fave for thick long lashes, however I also love M·A·C’s Zoomlash (for every day wear) and Dazzlelash (good to hold curl if you use an eyelash curler)

False Lashes – M·A·C’s #7 lashes are my most used but I love a good crazy lash every now and then and Shu Uemura are good for that. Also I’m constantly checking out Costume and Dance shops for quirky lashes!

Duo Lash Glue – Best lash glue I’ve ever used. Period. Throw away your pharmacy eyelash glue and all of those useless glues that come with lashes. Duo glue keeps lashes on all day/night and never un-sticks in the inner and outer corners (my main pet peeve). This glue is also amazing for sticking random things to your face (such as diamantes, feathers and whatnot)

Lips

M·A·C Tinted Lip Conditioner in Petting Pink – Contains SPF 15 and smells like vanilla.

M·A·C Prep and Prime Lip base – Best lip primer ever. Keeps product on longer and stops lipstick and gloss from feathering into the fine lines.

M·A·C Lip Pencils – Shades I love are: Subculture (great shade for all neutral colours), Cherry (perfect for blue and pink based reds), Redd (for the orange reds) and Magenta (hot pinky purple)

M·A·C Clear Lip Glass – The most long wearing gloss with a shiny glass-like shine, plus a tube of this lasts forever.

M·A·C Lipsticks – Right now my fave shades from MAC are Ruby Woo (bright matte blue-red), Kinda Sexy (matte mid-peachy nude), Hug Me (browny pink), Blankety (nude pink), Up the Amp (purpley pink), Violetta (bright wearable purple) and Lady Danger (bright orange red)

Of course I realize this list is very M·A·C heavy but what can I say? I love it and feel super lucky to be working with M·A·C both at the counter and in my freelance work!

Readers – What are your favorite colour products right now?

The magazine has finally been released! Here is the full Miss Australian Ink ‘Little Lost Girl’ spread, featured in Issue 4 of Australian Ink magazine.

Click on the thumbnails for bigger pics!

This shoot was organised by ex-editor Vanessa Morgan, and a big thank you goes out to her for all the time and effort she put in to make this happen! Sadly, Australian Ink magazine has cut all credit for Vanessa out of the magazine due to political bullshit, meaning she has been completely screwed over. I believe people should be properly credited for the work they do, so Brent and I are spreading the word and making sure people realise that Vanessa WAS the heart and soul of Australian Ink.

The winner Sarah was a delight to work with and made me proud – hiking through the Adelaide hills on a hot day in 6-inch heels! The incredible Tina Panagaris was hairstylist and the lovely Miss Kate assistant. Thanks girls for being a wonderful team. I love the results.

Of course, the amazing Brent Leideritz photographed this series! Go check out more of his work here.

For the make-up, I used tonnes of pigment on the eyes and cheeks, a bit of glitter here and there and made sure lips were dramatic. The brief from Vanessa was “colour!”, after all!

Etc.

In late January I was involved in another editorial shoot for Australian Ink Magazine, this time in charge of makeup for the winner of the Miss Australian Ink competition. I don’t think I’m allowed to say who that is yet as the magazine hasn’t been released but it’s set to hit the shelves by the end of this week! Keep an eye out for it, if not be sure to check back here as the pictures are hot hot hot and I’m dying to show you all!

I’m going away on a much needed mini break with my boyfriend in March. We’re heading to Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney and will be catching up with a few people to shoot while we’re in each of those cities. I can’t wait. Be sure to follow me on Twitter for adventures and behind the scenes antics :)

I have also finally made myself a Facebook fan page.

I really want to thank everyone for the support I’ve been getting in regards to my make-up work and blog. My website hits and stats are completely blowing me away!

Part two of my ‘Most Popular’ products is coming in a few days… until then, have a great week!

Part One – Basics

We all have our favourite things. When it comes to cosmetics and beauty products, I have my tried and tested basics which I always go back to – here are some of them and why.

Skincare

M·A·C Fix + Spray - I use this before, during and after all makeups. This refreshing face mist hydrates and soothes and is an instant pick-me-up. Fixes makeup and helps it look fresh all day. Keep it in the fridge in summer. Best product ever.

M·A·C Fast Response eye cream – Contains apple and caffeine, wakes up tired eyes and deflates bags. Like a morning coffee.

M·A·C Naked Honey Skin Salve – Just like honey… This was a limited release last year but if you can get your hands on one snap it up. Deliciously soothing for the lips, and a great treatment for elbows and hands.

Face

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch – This is a great complexion-booster. I use it under eyes as it’s light reflecting qualities banish dark circles. FYI please don’t go overboard with this product or you will look like this in photos. Yikes.

M·A·C Studio Fix Fluid foundation – For when you want your skin to look flawless. Not for every day but great for going out and photo shoots.

M·A·C Face and Body Foundation – The most used foundation at Fashion Week. Really runny and fluid formula. Sheer to medium build-able coverage. Waterproof. Another great one for shoots but only if your model has great glowy skin! Mix this in with a thicker formula (such as Studio Fix) to customize your coverage.

M·A·C Select Moisturecover Concealer – The only concealer you should be using under your eyes! Go slightly more orange in colour to maximize coverage on dark circles – it cancels out the bluey purple undertones.

M·A·C Studio Sculpt Concealer – This one is great for blemishes and everything else you need to cover. It’s full coverage but really creamy and blendable.

M·A·C Select Sheer Pressed Powder – Great for setting liquid foundation and during the day touch-ups. Never looks too powdery.

Eyes (Basics)

M·A·C Paint Pots – These are the bomb. Paint Pots act like a primer for your eyeshadow, stop shadow from creasing and keeps eyes looking perfect all day. Serious love for this product! Fave shades: Painterly (pale skin like colour) and Blackground (black – great for a smokey eye).

M·A·C Fluidline Gel Liner – Anyone who knows me knows that I rave on about this stuff! I use the ‘Blacktrack’ shade every single day as my eye liner. Great for cat-eye and pin-up looks. Great for all looks, really. Need to use a thin brush with this (like MAC #209)

M·A·C Eye Kohl - Creamy pencils, great for the waterline. Most used colours are Fascinating (white) and Smoulder (black).

M·A·C Cream Colour Base – These are great for shoots! I apply this all over the eye and pat shadow on top for a quick dramatic wet-look eye. Great for getting pigments and glitters to stick.

If you guys have used any of these products before I’d love to hear what you thought of them.

Part Two will be all about colour for eyes and lips!

Coco Rocha

Link Love this week is for all things design, fashion and photography blogger-based!

  • Nubby Twiglet is a graphic designer who is obsessed with monochromatic styling, fashion, helvetica and shoes. I’m sold.
  • Sea of Shoes is a fashion blog created by 18 year-old Jane Aldridge. Jane collects and has access to thousands of designer pieces and basically documents each outfit through pictures. Swoon.
  • Harmony Nicholas is an amazing Australian-based Photographer. Harmony is not only one of the most talented photographers I’ve worked with, she is also one of the funniest people I know. She has just started a blog at She Takes Photos.
  • If you’ve ever been curious as to what goes on in the life of a top fashion model, check out Oh So Coco. Coco Rocha is top of the food chain in the modeling industry and has graced the cover of Vogue countless times. This is her blog!
  • RIP Alexander McQueen. Check out his very last show, for Spring/Summer 2010 on youtube here.

Oh you pretty things!

Oh you pretty things
Mishka in Melissa ShoesMishka

What I covet this week…

  • I know there is no lack of Lime Crime in my world and on this blog, but the lipsticks have been out since October and I still haven’t posted about them! Creator of Lime Crime Makeup, the adorable Doe Deere, sent me her lipstick range to add to my collection and I’m still swooning over the gorgeous colours. In the above pictures I’m wearing D’lilac (boutique crème de lavender dessert in a tube) and Retrofuturist (Snow White’s lips if she worked on a spacecraft). As you can see, they are creamy and rich in colour payoff and photograph like a dream, which is every MUA’s fantasy lippy.
  • Matching your nails to your lipstick is even more fun when you’re rocking bright colours such as these. I found this delicious OPI nail lacquer to match my D’lilac lippy at my nail salon. The shade name is ‘Do You Lilac It?’. Yes!

Scarves are pretty much my signature outfit piece. I found this gorgeous over sized pleated scarf in a Melbourne boutique called Alphaville and since it’s the Summer in my hemisphere right now it’s a tad too hot for my usual outfit layering. Oh how I wish Australia had a cooler climate! I don’t belong here, I tell you. In case you were wondering, the fabulous lipstick shade I’m wearing is ‘Countessa Fluorescent’ by Lime Crime Makeup. It’s a real head-turner!

Next on my recently acquired list are these leather lace-up platforms from ZU. What can I say? I love the cut-out detailing and the streamlined shape mixed with the chunky heel and platform. And, they were a bargain. Double threat ;)

Nonsense in the Dark, Photographed by Paco Peregrín (from Haute Macabre)

Here is some link love for you; starting with the websites that I frequent often… enjoy!

  • Get inspired by the MAC Cosmetics youtube channel. New season collection videos and Senior Artist technique looks will keep you make-up people busy!
  • I love Lula Magazine! It’s so hard to find but when I get my paws on a copy I treasure it.
  • Haute Macabre is a fashion blog based around the darker, more alternative world. Nixon and Samantha post amazing editorials that they collect from all kinds of magazines and I visit daily for inspiration and new ideas/ways to mix and match my black outfits. Black is always the new black, remember!
  • When I think Street Style, I immediately check out The Sartorialist! It’s like people-watching in a busy city cafe, but from home. I love checking out the eclectic mix of taste from stylish people around the world.
  • I love Doe Deere’s Blog, Xenia is a sweetheart and has seriously colourful style and a fabulous make-up line. I recently got sent a bunch lipsticks from her new Candyfuture line and let me just say the colours are to die for! Bright baby blue lips? Hell yes!
